    The ADDIE training model is an instructional design methodology. This instructional model is used by instructors to design their steps and training procedure of a course. ADDIE Model is used by developers all around the world to build, develop and organize course content. Though this model was developed in the 1970s, it is used widely even today as it is simple and effective. The best part is this model can be used for any type of teaching be it online or offline.

    Defining ADDIE Training Model

    ADDIE is an acronym where each alphabet represents each stage of the development process. ADDIE is a 5-stage training model that helps in the process of creating a course. The 5 stages of the ADDIE Model are Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The tutors should go step by step while implementing the course. Revisions to the step should be made continuously throughout the process. 

    ADDIE is more of a circular model where each step repeats itself until perfection is attained. The fifth and final stage of the model is an evaluation that gives feedback helping you improve your course content and process on a consistent basis. The ADDIE model is also one of the most successful models currently present. In fact, most of the other instructional design models that are in existence today are all based on the ADDIE model.

    The 5 Stages of ADDIE training Model

    If a trainer wants to start a course and follow the ADDIE instructional design model then it is important to understand the below 5 steps –

    Analysis 

    In the first step, research on relevant topics and note down all the questions you have in your mind. Initially, one has to assess the current training situation in terms of what type of training to provide, the knowledge gap of trainees, experience of the trainees, previous failures, etc., All these research and question helps you understand what is suitable for the current situation and also understand the actual goal of the training. These have significant influence and are the most essential phases of the training process.

    You need to have a clear answer to a few questions before proceeding to stage two. It is important to follow the 5W’s and H rule. Why, What, Where, When, Who, How. The question can be like – 

    • Who is going to provide this training for?
    • Why is this training required?
    • What changes do you desire?
    • Where to provide this training?
    • When would all these happen?
    • How are you planning to accomplish it?

    You should keep an eye on continuous improvement to achieve your business goals throughout the steps. According to the goals, find out the answers to these questions.

    Design 

    In this phase, you convert all the theoretical knowledge you gained in the previous phase to practical use. You typically finalize the course delivery method, duration, structure, assessment, strategy, and feedback system. Once all that is done, build a blueprint of your idea and also create a prototype for the idea. Testing it is vital before launching it to the larger audience. Once you have prepared everything for your course, test it with your friends or teammates. Find out what they think and what adjustments are needed for a finished product.

    Development 

    It’s time to chisel your course content from the ideas you built in the design phase. By using the prototype as a guide, you need to start building the course. The detailed course content should be added and polished. Polish them by using infographics, multimedia, graphs, colors, and fonts. These are the stuff that will shoot up the engagement of the course. 

    Focus on minute details in the course. This will enhance the appeal of your course to the audience. The course should be again tested rigorously. During this testing phase grammatical, spelling, and syntax errors should be rectified. Instructors using LMS should make sure there are no bugs during navigation, quiz, and modules.

    Finally, you should assess the course timing and content. Answer questions like – 

    • Does the course seem long or is the course too small? 
    • Does the course cover all the required content? Is the pace of the course good? 

    Implementation 

    Once you are confident of the results from the testing phase, it’s time you deploy the course for everyone. You can make your course public and share it with everyone.     Evaluation
